SUMMARY:Fitger’s 5K
DESCRIPTION:The iconic Fitger’s 5K has grown into one of the state’s premier spring races\, offering a perfect challenge for runners of all ages and abilities while taking participants on a scenic tour of newly-renovated downtown Duluth. \nThis is the first of three races involved in the annual KP Challenge\, in which participants commit to three races throughout the spring and summer. SUMMARY:Thunderbird Warrior Challenge
DESCRIPTION:CAMP BENESI & MT. ASHWABAY PRESENT: THE THUNDERBIRD WARRIOR CHALLENGE \n50K TRAIL RUN\, 25K TRAIL RUN\, 10K TRAIL RUN & 5K FUN RUN W/ OBSTACLES! There will be fun\, games\, entertainment\, and activities throughout the day for the whole family! \nTHE COURSE\nThe trail runs feature a mix of flowy\, rolling trails and technical singletrack. This trail race takes you through a spectacular northwoods mosaic of old growth maple stands and sandy pines\, with panoramic vistas of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands. \nThis is a looped course with approximately two-thirds of the course on singletrack trail\, and the remaining one-third on Mt. Ashwabay’s famous cross country ski trails/two track. \nDETAILED DESCRIPTION\nStarting at Bayfield’s iconic Big Top Chautauqua Tent on the slopes of Mt. Ashwabay\, runners will head out over gentle rolling ski trails through northern mesic forest of old growth maple and hemlock. The trail winds its way to the Nourse Sugarbush State Natural Area where runners will pass the historic sugar shack\, used for generations by the Nourse family. This stunning forest is one of the last remnant stands of old growth sugar maple and hemlock in the Midwest\, and presents a living history of human settlement on the south shore. Long diagonal slashes can still be seen on some trees today from hundreds of years of maple sap harvest by the Anishinaabe people. \nAfter passing the sugar shack\, runners will face their first substantial climb to the peak of Mt. Ashwabay for a panoramic view of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands before heading back down the back side of our little mountain on moderately-technical singletrack. The trail traverses glacial topography of deep ravines and twisty hills… keep your eyes peeled for pink lady slipper orchids blooming along the side of the trail! The single-track takes you on a fast\, flowy loop before descending back down through sandy pine stands. Runners will then climb back up toward the top of the hill\, for a final descent back towards the Big Top tent. \nSTART TIMES\nJune 14\, 2025.\n50K at 6:00 am\n25K at 8:00 am\n10K at 8:00 am\n5K fun run w/obstacle course at 9:00 am. \nThis is going to be a fun day for the whole family. SUMMARY:Summer Training Panel
DESCRIPTION:Join Twin Cities in Motion and Run Minnesota for a panel on Summer Training. Hear from experts and coaches in the industry about how to best prepare and train during the summer months. There will be opportunities to hear from each panelist on topics/questions specific to Summer Training and a Q&A session following the panel. Bring your listening ears and questions and get ready to have your best summer of training yet. \nOur Expert Panelists include: \nDenise Lorentz \n Denise is excited to have the opportunity to coach and run with you! A native of Rochester\, MN and now residing in Monticello\, Denise began her running career as a sprinter on the high school track team. \nDenise attended St. Cloud State University (quite some time ago) for both her undergrad and masters programs in Communication Disorders. Denise works in the Monticello School District as a Speech-Language Pathologist. \nDenise\, being a mom of two\, had a busy lifestyle as her kids were growing up. However\, with her summers off\, she found she had time to run a few miles on the treadmill everyday. This was a casual hobby for her that soon turned into a passion. \nDenise completed her first marathon in 2017 by default (ask her to tell the story!) in Disney World. A couple of months later she had her sights on improving her time and one day running Boston. After qualifying three times\, she finally was accepted to run in 2021 and 2022. \nIn total\, Denise has run 17 marathons and many more half marathons\, 10k and 5k races. She loves sharing her joy of running with everyone which led her to obtain her RRCA coaching certification in 2022. You will always see her cheering on other runners both on and off the course. In her free time\, Denise likes to craft\, read\, travel\, and drink one too many McDonald’s Cokes (if you know you know) \nDenise is here to support your goals and listen to your concerns. Whether you are a first-time runner or a seasoned runner\, she is excited to connect with you and help you find your joy in running. \n  \nDaniel Baron \nCoach Daniel took up running at the age of 40 when his doctor recommended “a little aerobic exercise.” Since then\, he has run everything from 5Ks to 50Ks but specializes in a yearly spring and a yearly fall marathon. His continuing personal goal is a sub 3-hour marathon. \nDaniel is interested in all aspects of staying fit\, including strength training\, cross training\, sport psychology\, and nutrition. \nAfter a 27-year career teaching the German language and high school history classes\, Daniel delved into coaching with the Edina Boys Cross Country team as well as gaining UESCA coaching certification. He is excited to coach with Run Minnesota as a past participant of the MDRA marathon classes where he met his cadre of great running friends. As a former teacher\, Daniel takes an encouraging\, as well as individualized\, approach to help people be the runner they want to be. \n  \nBryn Saunders \nBryn started to run when she joined the track and field team in middle school which carried through to her time at Carroll University where she participated in both track & field and cross country. During her senior year of undergrad\, she was presented with an opportunity to coach high school distance and decided to make the swap from athlete to coach (and never looked back). Bryn is currently the head coach for the DeLaSalle cross country program and loves being a part of something bigger than herself. Shortly after becoming a coach Bryn started her journey as a student of the craft by pursuing certifications through USATF.  She is a certified USATF Level II Coach with a specialization in endurance and actively working on obtaining her Level III certification. \n  \nEmi Trost (now Jacobson) \nI grew up on a small grass-fed beef farm in Goodhue\, Minnesota and currently live in Cannon Falls with my husband Chase. I got my undergrad degree in Exercise Science from the University of Minnesota Duluth where I ran cross country and track and field and was a national champion in the 1500 meters. I received my master’s degree in Nutrition\, Dietetics and Sensory Sciences from Kansas State University while running for Minnesota Distance Elite. Currently\, I am wrapping up my dietetic internship at the Minneapolis VA before officially becoming a dietitian this summer. I hope to integrate my knowledge of fitness and running with functional and holistic nutrition for active individuals. Fishing\, having campfires\, and working in my garden are some of my favorite things to do. \n  \nJimmy Warmuth \nJames Warmuth\, BAS\, CPT\, received his Bachelors in Exercise Science and a minor in Psychology at the University of Minnesota Duluth where he also competed in the Decathlon. James has been a strength and conditioning coach for the past 10 years\, working with international hockey and basketball players\, as well as coaching local Volleyball and Track & Field teams. James believes that high energy and passion brings out the best in any athlete. “I can build an amazing athlete as long as I get energy and dedication in return. Progress is inevitable.” \nJames provides sports performance training at Training HAUS – Eagan\, located next to TCO Eagan – Viking Lakes. Training HAUS\, with a flagship location in Eagan\, is an elite athletic performance and recovery philosophy that is unparalleled in the Twin Cities.
